Job Description
Astex Pharmaceuticals and the group of Prof. Ruben Sanchez-Garcia at IE University are offering a joint postdoctoral research position focused on developing advanced deep learning algorithms for cryo-EM single particle analysis (SPA).
The role will focus on advancing deep learning-driven 3D pose estimation for low signal-to-noise ratio cryo-EM images, building on recently published cryoPARES software and exploring representation learning using large-scale cryo-EM datasets.
The successful candidate will work closely with Astex’s cryo-EM and machine learning teams, while also benefiting from collaboration with Prof. Sanchez-Garcia’s research group in Madrid.
This Cambridge-based role will include regular visits to Madrid, Spain.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential Skills
PhD in mathematics, computer science, or another relevant numerical/computational discipline, or equivalent experience
Detailed knowledge of SPA image processing theory with experience in algorithm development for SPA
OR
Experience developing computer vision algorithms using frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow, with an interest in cryo-EM single particle analysis
Excellent knowledge of Python
Familiarity with Git
Knowledge of C/C++ preferred
Strong problem-solving and teamwork skills
